SMME Environment

SMMEs in South Africa are encouraged and it is recommended that SMME initiatives be integrated within the national
R&D and industrial policy framework.

Supporting structures for SMMEs are:

• Innovation hubs and advisory centres, National Advisory Manufacturing Centres, e.g. SAMAC programmes,
  NAMAC, GODISA and Tshumisano etc
• Other government financing structures for SMMEs should be easily accessible example the IDC’s Khula,
  Umsobomvu Youth Fund etc
• Funding sources: Khula, National Empowerment Fund, IDC, and Business Partners
