The Minister of Science and Technology reappointed the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) for the period March 2008 to February 2009. The Chairperson for the period is Dr Steve Lennon, Managing Director: Corporate Services Division at Eskom. Most of the previous NACI members were available for reappointment. NACI is strengthened by the addition of four new members, viz. Prof Lineo Vuyisa Mazwi-Tanga (Vice-Chancellor: Cape Peninsula University of Technology), Ms Khungeka Njobe (Group Executive, CSIR), Dr Adi Paterson (General Manager, Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (Pty) Ltd) and Ms Thuli Radebe (CEO: SA Centre for Public Service Innovation).

The term of office of the second NACI came to an end on 29 February 2008. The Council was appointed for one year to allow time for an extensive external review of NACI and its Act in 2008. The current group of NACI Councillors represent the stakeholders from across the National System of Innovation, and include:
