NACI – INNO4DEV Workshop

Real Experiences of Industries and Businesses on Innovation for Development with Potential for Wider Adoption

With support from the Developmental Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Innovation for Development (INNO4DEV) subcommittee of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) hosted a workshop on Friday 29 January 2010 at the DBSA. The purpose of the workshop was to enable various organisations such as mining, chemical, financial, information and communication technology (ICT) and other relevant industries to come and share their real experiences of working with and improving lives of the grassroots communities through application of technological and non-technological innovations. The objectives of the workshop were to identify:

  • Real examples of successes made through application of technological and non-technological innovations with potential for roll-out.
  • Challenges to innovations and strategies applied or planned to address those challenges.

First meeting of the newly established INNOV4DEV sub-committee of NACI

The newly established sub-committee of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI),Innovation for Development (INNO4DEV), held its very first meeting (mini workshop) on 03 July 2009 at the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The purpose of the meeting was to distil from discussions short actions that could be implemented by INNO4DEV committee during 2009/10 fiscal year.

NACI lunch-seminar – Swedish Research & Innovation System and VINNOVA Policies and lessons learnt

Dr Anne Lidgard, a Programme Director and member of the management team of the Innovation Actors Division at VINNOVA in Sweden presented a paper entitled “Swedish Research & Innovation System and VINNOVA Policies and lessons learnt” at a NACI seminar held on 18 March 2009 at the DST. The seminar was attended by the members of the NACI Secretariat and the DST officials from various programmes. VINNOVA is the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems that is tasked with promoting sustainable growth by financing needs-driven R&D and developing innovation systems.
