Annual NACI Symposium on Leadership Roles of Women in Science, Technology and Innovation

The NACI symposium entitled, Enhancing the leadership roles of women in science, technology and innovation was held on Friday 13 August 2010 at Premier Hotel, Pretoria.

The symposium, which was an initiative of Science, Engineering and Technology (SET4W), sub-committee of NACI, was attended by about 100 leaders and aspiring leaders (predominantly women) from a wide variety of institutions and organisations.

Launch of Facing the facts booklet, 2009

facing the facts booklet - 2009A booklet, Facing the facts 2009 was launched by the Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor on Tuesday 25 August 2009 in Parliament. The updated booklet is an important contribution to the Department of Science and Technology’s efforts to mainstream women in the SET sector.

The updated Facing the Facts is based on a study commissioned by the Science, Engineering and Technology for Women (SET4W) committee, one of the sub-committees of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) established to advise the Ministry of Science and Technology on how to achieve gender equity in the sector.

CSSA Fellowship Award goes to SET4W Committee Member

Professor Judith Bishop received the 2008 Computer Society of South Africa Fellowship Award (CSSA), an award made in recognition of achievement and a long-term commitment to the objectives of the Society. Having joined the Society in 1974, Prof Bishop is one of the longest-standing members of the Society. She has represented the Society internationally, having been elected chair of the International Federation of Information Processing’s (IFIP) working group on Software Implementation Technology for two terms and also serving as programme co-chair of the IFIP World Computer Congress held in Milan in September.
